What Do I Need Before Hiring a Web Designer?
You do not need everything finished before hiring a web designer. In fact, many business owners hire FultonStudio because they do not have everything organized yet.
But you do need a clear starting point. The more honest you are about what exists, what is missing, and what the website needs to do, the better the project will be.
Start with what the business does
Before design, the website needs to explain the business. Write down your main services, who you serve, where you work, what people usually ask before hiring you, and what action you want visitors to take.

Gather your existing materials
Useful materials include:
- your current website link
- logo files or brand materials
- service descriptions
- pricing or package notes
- photos, product images, or portraits
- testimonials or reviews
- brochures, PDFs, proposals, or past ads
- social media links
- examples of sites you like
- examples of sites you do not like
Do not wait until everything is perfect. A good web designer should be able to see what can be used, what needs to be rewritten, and what needs to be created.
Be honest about what is missing
Many website projects slow down because the client assumes they need to provide finished copy and perfect images. That is not always true.

Know what kind of help you need
Some clients need a simple site. Others need a WordPress rebuild, custom forms, WooCommerce, a project estimator, a client dashboard, booking, payments, or better backend tools.
You do not need to know every technical detail. But you should know what is frustrating you now and what the website should make easier.

Think through your service pages
Service pages are where many businesses lose people. A page should explain what the service is, who it is for, what is included, what problem it solves, and how someone should take the next step.

You do not need to solve the whole website first
The point of hiring help is not to arrive with a finished website already planned. The point is to bring the real pieces of the business so the designer can help shape them into something clear.
If you are not ready for a full project, start with a website review. When you are ready, send your current site, your goals, and whatever materials you have through the contact page. The starting point does not have to be perfect. It just has to be honest.
